A rapper hailing from the Canadian province of Canada, Chris Emmanuel is finding focus and emotional clarity with the release of his debut EP, The Fallout. Beneath the smooth delivery and confident appearances is a diaristic collection of soul-searching lyricism. The six-track arrives after the success of the teaser single ‘Letting Go’, but in full, The Fallout feels like a broader turning point. Emmanuel claims his space with a thoughtful and sharp-edged voice, intertwining a playful, expressive nature with some deeply reflective undertones.
The personal growth detailed in The Fallout draws on real-life tension: inner conflict, self-improvement, relationship breakdowns and solitude. Amongst that, however, the lingering feeling is not weighed down by darkness. The introspection is moved through with intent, hazy beats creating a beautiful overall atmosphere.
In his own words, “The songs serve as a diary of sorts, where I revisit my past transgressions, seeking understanding and forgiveness. Through this musical endeavour, I aim to transform my mistakes into lessons, creating a narrative of redemption and self-awareness. The music is a testament to my resolve to surround myself with those who uplift and inspire me. By setting boundaries, motivating myself and prioritising my well-being, I found strength in moving forward. Ultimately symbolises a journey that I take my listeners through. Clarity is everything. The Game Is Rigged.”
The fluid alt-rap palette is emotional but composed by the Guayanese-born performer. Ebbing and flowing with intuitive ease, Emmanuel defines his ethos, using the culture shock, heritage and surroundings to fuel his work.
