CUT_ unveil deadly new single ‘Undertow’

CUT_ are already well-versed in slick, electro-noir numbers, but new single ‘Undertow‘ demonstrates the duo’s ability to pack a punch too.

Belle Doron’s vocal snakes in an out of ominous swells with a touch that’s as deadly as it is ethereal. Initially, you’d be forgiven for wanting to slap Banks comparisons all over her hauntingly breathy tone. But when the dark undertone suddenly gives way to a strikingly-pop line, the swagger and incisiveness of her cutting vocals have all fingers pointing to MØ‘s influenceWe won’t hesitate to take you down… take our time to finish you,’ sings Doron. It’s a threat that’s delivered with ruthless conviction thanks to the other half of the Dutch duo.

Master of the dials, Sebastiaan Dutilh, keeps the euphoria bubbling beneath the surface, always teasing a promise of what’s to come. His masterstroke is undoubtedly opening with a minimal sound, so that he only has to crank it up a notch to make a lethal, seismic-sounding chorus. The pair say ‘Undertow’ is about being the victim of your own success, but it’s hard to believe them when they play the Antagonist so well.
