Dave Curl Shares Global Collaboration in ‘Lockdown – Seven Nations’ Album

Independent Australian-Swiss artist Dave Curl uses music as a channel for expression, and a unifying force across borders and his new album ‘Lockdown – Seven Nations’ is no exception.

The album’s title track, “Lockdown – original”, serves as a poignant reflection on the state of the world during the global pandemic, viewed through the lens of rock and roll rebellion. With over 1.5 million streams on Spotify and airplay on indie radio stations worldwide, Dave Curl’s scathing single has captured the zeitgeist, resonating with audiences far and wide.

Dave Curl’s musical journey traces back to his formative years, influenced by the sounds of the 80s and 90s. Drawing inspiration from iconic artists like Sting, Eurythmics, and AC/DC, as well as contemporary songwriters such as Ed Sheeran and Halsey, his eclectic style merges folk, pop, and rock into a soulful tapestry of sound.

‘Lockdown – Seven Nations’ transcends linguistic boundaries, with the album featuring eight different versions of the song, each interpreted by artists from Switzerland, Spain, Germany, France, India, Italy, and the UK. Despite the diversity of languages, the universal language of music allows the raw emotion of the track to shine through, offering a unique perspective on the shared human experience.

Reflecting on the inspiration behind the album, Dave Curl shares, “During the Covid-19 time I had all these emotions that just needed to be expressed in a creative way. At the time I was just overwhelmed about all the ‘shitshows’ going on, but with some distance and time I found the hook (chorus) for the song and could finally use all those pages I had filled with words of anger, fear, hope, and disbelief.

The album’s collaborative spirit extends beyond cultural borders, with featured artists lending their voices to reinterpret “Lockdown” in their respective languages and styles. From Swiss rap to Spanish, German, French, Hindi, Italian, and English renditions, each version adds a unique flavor to the album, showcasing the global resonance of Dave Curl’s music.

In a time of uncertainty and division, Dave Curl’s ‘Lockdown – Seven Nations’ album serves as a testament to the unifying power of music, transcending borders, languages, and cultural divides. As listeners embark on a musical journey across continents, they’ll find solace, inspiration, and perhaps a glimmer of hope in the universal language of rock and roll.
