Davey Squires continues to stay busy in 2025, having just released his 4th song of the year, ‘Icarus‘. The track opens with punchy piano and brings a mix of raw emotion and playful energy. His unique voice cuts through with honesty, f loating over a sound that blends acoustic and synthetic layers.
Based in northeast Ohio, Davey’s been putting out music since 2018—both solo and with his band, Davey Squires & Friends. He’s known for jumping between genres and always doing something fresh, but keeping his sound uniquely his own.
The track was originally planned to be part of a bigger album but Davey decided to release it as a single. He says it’s about the ups and downs of life on the road as a musician. “Being a touring musician, I wanted to reflect on the highs and lows during my time. The feelings imposed in this song are a culmination of that.” The lyrics paint a picture of burnout, fake smiles, and getting caught in bad cycles. But there’s also a little hope within the song.
Lyrics like “Sincerity, for charity / I’m lost on what to say / A product of, just because” show how easy it is to lose yourself in a world that expects you to fake it. Still, “Honestly, you’re a friend to me / And I’d have it no other way” reminds us that not everything is fake and we do the things in life for a reason. ‘Icarus’ is honest, messy, and entirely Davey Squires.
