Dogs love reggae, a new study shows

The canine world is as susceptible to the power of song as the human realm, apparently, after a new study has shown that dogs’ moods are easily affected by different types of music.

The study, conducted by the Scotland SPCA and Glasgow University, found that dogs react most positively to reggae and soft rock, although according to the BBC it also suggested that “each dog has its own music tastes“.

Professor Neil Evans, who worked on the study, said: “Overall, the response to different genres was mixed highlighting the possibility that like humans, our canine friends have their own individual music preferences“.

Five genres were played for the dogs – in addition to soft rock and reggae, Motown, classical and pop – with the former two showing a reduction in stress levels, calculated by monitoring the pups’ heart rates.

The dogs were unavailable for comment.
