Dom Quincey releases the emotive single ‘Before My Eyes’

Born in West-London, Dom Quincey’s delicate alt-pop defencelessness has steadily enticed a growing fanbase. 2023’s ‘corner of your mind’ was his biggest streaming success so far, something Dom has his sights on continuing in the coming year. Ethereal vocals, emotive melodies and a sound influences by the likes of James Blake, Frank Ocean, Jeff Buckley and Elliott Smith, Dom is often tagged with a sense of modern nostalgia.

For his first release of the new year, Dom Quincey has unveiled the expressive soarer ‘Before My Eyes’. As the track opens with a soft vocal and warm, delicate electric piano, audiences settle in for a quiet and vulnerable bedroom pop ballad. Steadily though, Dom builds the instrumentation, supporting his gorgeous lead vocal with further melodies, walking the line between electronic feelings and natural sounds. The track continues to rise adding drums and vocal harmony, maintaining the gorgeous elegance of the first moments, before exploding into a firework of emotion, every melody falls in together, and Dom’s vocals before distorted and distant, driving home the stirring sounds of the instrumentation.

Dom explains, “‘Before My Eyes’ is essentially a song about the yearning that comes in the wake of losing a loved one very suddenly. I started working on ideas for the song a couple of years ago, but it didn’t find its true meaning until after I experienced a traumatic loss. It’s the most vulnerable song I have put out.

This track feels different for me as it reflects an entirely raw expression of myself. Sonically, I wanted the song to reflect a journey of emotions. The track starts in a fragile place with minimal production in the verse and eventually builds to a crescendo of complex feelings in the climax. I want people to use the song as an outlet for their interpretation of loss. It can be just as much about the loss of romantic love as it can be about grief.”
