Bringing her unique, conceptual brand of pop to the airwaves of London, Ebony Buckle is on the path toward her second album Hearts Get Started. The artist writes and performs with her husband Nick Burns, holding a mirror to the world to help find her place within it. Once the album is unveiled, Ebony will be sharing its magic live at the Camden Club on October 17th.
Her latest teaser for this important project is the single ‘I Think I Just Saved My Own Life’. The track opens with a lonely lead vocal, supported only by a dark piano chord and a deep, synth hum. The drums punch out, alongside a bass guitar, to enforce an impactful rhythmic foundation, able to balance Ebony’s untethered, ethereal lead vocals.
The section of pure angelic deliverance comes with a brighter mix of instruments, before the ever-expanding main groove roots down in a charging atmosphere. Finally, a climax arrives, a starry moment filled with optimism, breaking through the boundary with the importance of Ebony’s decision behind her.
The track was written about Ebony’s experience removing alcohol from her live. She explains in her own words, “I used to drink a lot and I think it was a way to quiet the critical voices in my brain. When I stopped 5 years ago, I felt so much relief that I was free of this thing that had been in the way of everything I wanted to do with my life. I felt like I had saved myself from a very different future.”
