Emerging Australian artist CLYPSO releases music video for ‘D.Y.S (Defend Your Situation)’

C’mon! Sing out! Defend Your Situation!

Sydney-based producer and singer-songwriter CLYPSO has dropped the video to her latest single, ‘D.Y.S (Defend Your Situation)’.

Konstantine Kersting – who has previously worked with burgeoning Aussie artists Mallrat and Tones and I – adds his midas touch in sharing production credits with CLYPSO for the track. The result is an 80s-esque indie-electro pop banger punctuated with horns, driving bass-lines and atari synth breaks.

The track’s lyrics highlight how people’s actions and words toward others are merely projections of their own issues. As CLYPSO explains: “You can’t change it so screw it. Why give them a free ride on your energy when you know all they want is to ‘be somebody’. You know your real situation so defend it.”

Since its release,  ‘D.Y.S (Defend Your Situation)’ has garnered over 200,000 streams on Spotify. Now, CLYPSO has dropped the long-awaited music video.

For the visuals, Melbourne-based stylist Ntombi Moyo takes on directing duties. On the video, Ntombi, whose previous directing credits include Sampa The Great and REMI said:

“It was an honour to create these visuals for CLYPSO. I was drawn to ‘Defend Your Situation’. Being young, black, African and female, my life has known this journey far too many times. Regardless of what the viewers internalise or interpret of what this song means to them, it was important to express it in a carefree manner because despite our social climate, life goes on.”
