Empathy debut with explosive ‘Jeffrey’

After years of focussing on electrifying the live scene, and appearing on sell-out lineups across the Irish circuit, Empathy has finally made their single debut. Comprised of singer/guitarist Dean Nolan, guitarist Dan Rheinisch, drummer Adam McCarthy and bassist Sam Sweetman, the four-piece has existed in some capacity since 2017 as an outlet for songwriting.

Making a statement from their first moment, Empathy has unveiled ‘Jeffrey’. Harnessing the dark moral conflicts of a serial killer to create a heavy alt-rock blaze. They explain, “Jeffrey is an interpretation of the internal struggles and moral wranglings of one of the most well-known serial killers of the 20th century. We wrote the song to investigate Dahmer’s descent from ideation to reasoning; and eventually to his indulgent actions, and relishing in his vile nature.”

By applying this sense of storytelling to the colossal instrumental arrangement, Empathy draws the listener in and shakes them around, surrounding them in raw riffs, punchy drums and feedback cries. The vocals themselves settle into almost eerie quiet, before exploding into each chorus with fury. Incredible passion on show, they embody their characters, and don’t look back.
