Though she debuted over half a decade ago, 2024 is the year that saw Evangeline Eastwood really embed herself as a performer, conducting an acoustic tour through her own independent events company. This DIY ethos has served her well, delivering her singer, songwriter and pianist talent, as well as themes that tackle misogyny and sexism, to as many people as possible.
Bringing delicate lyricism that details the woes of a long-distance relationship, Evangeline’s Valentine’s single is ‘I Know’. The piano ballad brings soul-crushing emotion to an arrangement that seems to blossom from classical roots.
The vocals settle atop the keys with an impassioned tone, softly echoing out, straight from the heart. Despite a palatable surface level, the track’s depth is what makes it stand out, taking a duet of two instruments and filling it with power and texture.
“’I Know’ captures the ache of a long-distance relationship,” Evangeline shares, “highlighting the possibility of never seeing each other again while honouring the reality of a genuine connection. The minimal instrumentation emphasizes intimacy and raw emotion, while the lyrics explore the duality of love and heartbreak.
The choice to record the track as an acoustic single was deliberate, focusing on the intimacy of the emotions it conveys. This stripped-down approach heightens the rawness and authenticity of the piece.”
