Since the release of their latest EP, ‘Prime’, BlueJay are back swinging as they announce a one-off live show at the Phoenix, Exeter on the 12th September. Coupling anthemic riffs and stadium-sized stomps, the group have made waves over the past few months, gaining a reputation for their dynamic live show.
Their latest EP showcases a band in which authenticity and energy are at the top of the agenda. As roaring guitars set in over pummelling backbeats, BlueJay offer a sound that is just as bluesy as it is gripping. The release features a whole world of sound, which the band look to bring to the South West in September.
Exploring the band’s creative process, they explain, “We have improved this over the years, and it’s got quite a nice rhythm to it now. Jez and I are always coming up with riffs which we hastily get onto any recorded format, usually a quick film. All of us know that a good and powerful riff is everything in rock. When it comes to lyrics, I’m always making notes on my phone as phrases that I hear or just come into my head – often in the shower! If I get a line or two or a melody, I then need to get it down in some way as soon as possible, else it’s gone! After I get a demo together, I then have the nervous moment of presenting to the rest of the band. It’s a bit like handing over a baby…”
