ferna releases new VR music video for “go quietly”

ferna hails from the North Coast of Ireland, but her sound is much more global than that. The mastermind behind ferna is Hannah McPhillimy, an accomplished musician who aims to push genre barriers as far as they’ll go. Performing alongside the likes of Foy Vance, SOAK and The Gloaming, ferna has managed to create a strong sonic and visual partnership that’s been lauded by fans and tastemakers alike.

ferna is back, and she’s presenting a new and refreshing format for music videos. Using single “go quietly” from her recent debut album “understudy,” ferna has crafted a music video that can be watched in three different formats. These are: traditional landscape orientation, portrait (for the new age of consumption) and in a virtual reality format. ferna has allowed her fanbase to get even closer to her – and we cannot wait to see where that leads to.

Speaking about the single, she says: “The idea behind this video was not only to convey the shape of the song but also represent something of the whole album. Because of the multiple versions – portrait, landscape & VR – there should be an inbuilt sense for the viewer that there is always a wider perspective that we don’t necessarily see in the moment. That felt fitting for “Understudy”, which is all about who is missing from the conversation and the sides of the story we don’t hear very often.

In my ideal world, people would start with the portrait version, which is framed as an intimate conversation between artist and viewer, before getting glimpses of others in the landscape version and then the full whack in the VR. However, each format is standalone if people are dipping in and out too.

With a growing fanbase and huge praise from tastemakers, we’re sure she’ll reach the top.
