Flores Blue shares quietly confident new four-track ‘Trampolining’

Colchester-based Flores Blue is a singer-songwriter whose drive for indie rock songs is matched only by her compassion for human nature’s complications. The result in her sonic palette is a unique charm, taking cues from Boy Genius and Soccer Mommy. Backed by tastemakers including 6 Music, and taking the reins as an independent artist, her new EP Trampolining is not to be dismissed.

A cinematic blend of folk, lo-fi and pure dreaminess, the EP is consistently some of the most human, yet angelic, sound you’ll have heard recently. It’s perfectly layered to feel vulnerable, sometimes even lonely, but is always poignant, intentional and emotive.

Even in moments of climactic triumph, the music feels no need to sensationalise, with lilting lifts directing power without needing to roar from the speakers.

There’s also plenty of innovative moments, like the rolling percussion and brass on the title track. However, even here, Flores chooses to keep it flowing and soft, no need to draw attention, just the way the track was always meant to unfold. This quiet confidence and resistance to being drawn into looking for your attention make her command it even more.

“This EP was created with the best I had, reflecting its core theme– ‘just a tree and a house was enough,” Flores shares.

Producer, Noah Sparkes, adding, “We tried to combine a DIY approach with something more expansive, pairing stripped-back indie production with an eclectic range of influences. The challenge was to achieve those larger-scale moments without losing the intimate, personal feel of the writing.”
