Independent label and songwriting community Folklore Records have unveiled Folklore Vol. 2, a new compilation that showcases four rising songwriters, hoping to achieve the same impact as the heavily streamed, physically sold-out first edition. Out now, artists Nierra Creek, Quaking Aspens, Adam Spry, and Mezanmi follow in the footsteps of the likes of Bess Atwell and George Ogilvie, continuing to define Folklore’s mission of amplifying songwriting at its most sincere.
The sonic exploration across the four featured tracks is gracious and global. The Brighton-based duo Nierra Creek take up the opening slot, with an energised, drum-driven, lo-fi tinged groove. The alt-folk psychedelia of Quaking Aspens follows, hypnotic in delivery and warming in tone. Adam Spry’s ‘Tangled’ is beautifully soft, deeply heartfelt, with an uplifting feel and sliding, nostalgic vocal melodies from the San Francisco artist. Mezanmi wraps up this just over 16-minute four-track, with a cinematic single that is experimental and elegant, pretty and human.
Founded by Brighton-based artist Jacko Hooper, Folklore began as a grassroots, intimate songwriter night, before evolving into the label it is today. It champions the songwriters that provide the most powerful, honest and depth-filled music, evolving into an influential force with core values on its sleeve.
