Gasper Nali’s Malawian Afrobeats

Afrobeats artist Gasper Nali is bringing his unique one-man band tour to the UK this September and October for a series of 21 performances. Acclaimed by likes of Songlines and RootsWorld magazines, Nali is known for his energetic dance music played on his homemade one-string Babatoni.

The instrument, thought to be the largest of its kind in the world, has been crafted from two pieces of an old oil barrel to create the guitar and large bass drum. Nali has also added a bluegum eucalyptus fretboard and cow skins, and made a kick pedal to beat the drum. Nali’s journey to stardom is an inspiring one. Hailing from rural Northern Malawi, the artist originally performed with his two brothers where they would busk in nearby villages.

After their tragic passing, Nali was left to continue their legacy alone. A video posted to social media soon garnered over 18 million views and helped him come to the attention of music project manager Mattias Stålnacke. Since then, Nali and Stålnacke have worked together to professionally record his music, generating more than a million streams on Spotify alone. Reggae poet Michael Mountain is accompanying Nali in his UK tour, offering a perfect accompaniment to the artist’s afrobeats music style. Nali’s shows promise to be an unforgettable experience, one that will stay with music lovers for a long time. His songs are said to be moving to hear and a spectacle to watch, so the UK tour will no doubt be bursting with energy.

If you’re looking for an exciting new music experience, or if you’re a devoted afrobeats fan, then Gasper Nali’s tour is an unmissable event. Secure your ticket now to be part of the magic.
