Release Date: 30th May 2025 – Pre-Save Here

Irish composer and Grammy-nominated music producer Gavin Murphy is set to release his highly anticipated debut album, ‘Moment‘, on May 30th, 2025. This instrumental and ambient masterpiece, born from his passion for film and television scoring, invites listeners into a tranquil soundscape inspired by a lifetime of musical exploration and the rolling countryside of his Kildare home.

Moment marks a pivotal chapter for Gavin Murphy, whose illustrious career spans over two decades collaborating with global icons like Christy Moore, David Gray, Niall Horan, and Van Morrison. Stepping away from his role as a sought-after arranger, orchestrator, and producer, Murphy turned inward to craft an album that reflects his love for composing music with a visual medium in mind. What began as an idea for a modest EP blossomed into a full-fledged album as themes poured forth, each piece a testament to his eclectic influences ranging from jazz and folk to classical, with nods to cinematic giants like Simon & Garfunkel’s folk-tinged score for The Graduate and Vangelis’ evocative blend of electronica and classical in Chariots of Fire.

The album’s creation was a deeply personal process, with every note composed and recorded in Murphy’s countryside studio in Kildare, Ireland. The serene environment seeps into the music, offering listeners a calming escape from a frantic world. Murphy’s compositional approach is as varied as his influences—sometimes sparked by a piano melody, a guitar arpeggio, or a single studio sound. Ideas often struck in the quiet of early mornings, growing swiftly from a single seed into fully realized pieces. The result is a collection of tracks that balance ambient textures and avant-garde flourishes with melody at the forefront.

Moment features contributions from exceptional guest musicians, including Ken Rice on violin, Ben Castle on woodwinds, and Yue Tang on cello, adding rich layers to Murphy’s vision. The recent video for the track Kaleidoscope captures the album’s essence, reflecting on the infinite colors, lights, and shapes of the world as a metaphor for boundless perspectives.

Gavin Murphy’s musical journey began in Belfast, where his parents nurtured his early violin and piano lessons. A childhood obsession with The Beatles’ Revolver ignited his curiosity about sound layering, leading him to experiment with a 4-track tape machine. This curiosity propelled him through studies at Newcastle College, the University of London, and the prestigious Berklee College of Music, where he honed his craft in arranging, orchestration, and composition. His diverse career has seen him write television themes, orchestral scores, musicals, and jingles, blending traditional orchestration with ambient electronic elements and flowing melodies.
