Depicting the tale of a summer romance, indie band Gecko Club have released their laid-back sunny groove entitled ‘By The Pool’. Featuring dreamy lead guitar riffs, refined drum rhythms and feel-good melodies, this mellifluous track emphasizes why the band’s indie surf rock sound is so irresistible. The new single is accompanied by a retro-style music video which captures the quaint beauty of English landscapes and the effortless dynamism between the band members.
The band spoke in detail about their new release: “We wanted to write a tune which illustrated James’ experience in Portugal during the summer of 2012, about a romance that didn’t quite go to plan. And in spite of the bittersweet lyrics, we chose the sound of the song, to replicate the chilled feeling of summer. This was a track we wrote in early 2018, that we feel had a big impact in discovering our sound. James came into our studio with a chord progression that we built the tune upon, and we established the indie-surf sound we were looking for. We went down to River Studios in Southampton for a week during April 2018 with 10 songs we wanted to get recorded. ‘By The Pool’ is the last of the tracks we are releasing from this session. For the video, we wanted to capture the nostalgic summer feelings which we get when we hear the song. We had an early start at our mate Alfie’s house, to shoot the pool scenes. After that, we headed to the south coast and South Downs, and just enjoyed a weekend down there while shooting.”
Since making their debut in 2018, Gecko Club’s unique and vibrant sound has attracted an ardent following. Their first single, energetic party anthem ‘High Flyer’, received airtime on ITV’s ‘This Morning’ as well as over a quarter of a million streams on Spotify. For those of us who are in denial that autumn is approaching, the woozy and addictive new track ‘By The Pool’ from Gecko Club is the perfect dose of sonic sunshine to make you forget those end-of-summer blues.
