Genre-bending post-punk rockers ‘School Disco’ return with powerful new album ‘Denton Rock’

Having opened for acts like Wolf Alice, Froth, Lime Garden, and Frankie and the Witch Fingers, Brighton-based genre-blending post-punk rockers School Disco are back with their highly anticipated new album, ‘Denton Rock’, released ahead of their upcoming UK tour.

Adding to their colorful and brazen discography, School Disco has announced the release of their upcoming record, ‘Denton Rock’, recorded at Sour Grapes Records in Denton, Manchester. The album arrives preceded by the tantalizing teaser single ‘Feelings Coming,’ which features gritty instrumentals, energetic guitar lines, and vocals reminiscent of Ian Curtis from Joy Division, creating an organic and intriguing sonic experience.

Lead vocalist Rory shared his excitement about the album, saying, “‘Denton Rock’ is an album I’m super proud of, with a whole new line-up we really got into a groove playing new songs and reimagining old ones live. We booked out a studio in Manchester that our friends have, and we managed to get down 90% of the album in 3 days. We all really hit a groove, and it was such a fun creative process with everyone down to get experimental and use the studios as a big playground.”

Recorded in just three days, the album comprises nine tracks that delve into overt narratives steeped in politics, such as ‘King,’ ‘Crying Beats,’ and ‘Master Of Disguise.’ Additionally, ‘Denton Rock’ carries forward the H.P. Lovecraft torch from their previous record with tracks like ‘M.O.M.’ Focusing largely on how the government has failed a generation, the album touches on environmentalism, the struggles of the working class, and more, making it politically relevant and in-touch.

Rory explained the album’s thematic focus, stating, “This album has some quite strong political feelings in it, having been written over the past couple of years and over a period where we have had a number of terrible prime ministers and ironically no change to the regime. They almost feel like mythical beasts to me in a number of ways. A larger-than-life caricature. They have a disregard for anyone but themselves and a general lack of awareness of others. I feel they have failed us in so many ways whether it be LGBTQ+ issues, environmental issues, immigration, helping the working-class people, asylum seekers, cost of living crisis, heating, and more.”

Unique, fun, yet intense and holding a compelling message, ‘Denton Rock retains the exhilarating energy of their live shows whilst delivering intricate musicianship and lyrical depth, showcasing how the band has honed their craft over the last few years of intense gigging.

‘Denton Rock’ is available now for download via BandCamp and Copper Feast Records’ Webstore. The album is also accessible digitally, on vinyl, and on CD through Copper Feast Records and Krautpop! Records.
