George Michael’s cause of death has been revealed

It has been confirmed by senior coroner, Darren Salter, that George Michael died of natural causes.

The ‘Careless Whisper‘ singer died on Christmas day at home last year. The Oxfordshire coroner said he was suffering from dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver. The cause of death means there is no need for an inquest.

Michael died aged 53 in Goring-on-Thames in Oxfordshire. Thames Valley Police originally said his death was unexplained after the initial post-mortem. The funeral was delayed due to this, but his body has now been released to his family.

Speaking about the inquest, the coroner said, “Inquiries into the death of George Michael have been concluded and the final post-mortem report received.

As there is a confirmed natural cause of death, being dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver, the investigation is being discontinued and there is no need for an inquest or any further enquiries.

No further updates will be provided and the family requests the media and public respect their privacy.”
