Gian Varela & Steve Andreas join forces on infectious, spanish single ‘Veneno’ featuring Felicia

An internationally acclaimed DJ, producer and songwriter born in Panama, Gian Varela has just enlisted Spinnin’ Records signed artist Steve Andreas to unveil one of the most exciting dance tracks we’re heard this year, “Veneno.” With a heavy dose of latin-pop and guaracha influences, “Veneno” features the vocal talents of Felicia, who nicely compliments the two producers’ vibe with her infectious lines.

“Veneno” is a tune crafted to appeal to an international fanbase, and it’s bound to amass massive success, further driven by Gian Varela’s TikTok follower count of over 50k fans. The song also marks the first in a series of songs the young artist is gearing up to drop this year, symbolizing the lockdown era being put to rest, while making the most out of his life’s mission: bringing joy to the global community through the power of music.

We had the opportunity to have a quick chat with Gian Varela about “Veneno”, check out what he had to say about it:

MC: How did the idea for a video for “Veneno,” come about?

Between me and kary from ByKanvas we wanted to do a video that connected with “toxic” or poisonous, and we got the idea of having a girl with “snake eyes”. Then we started working deeper into the story, and we ended up with the idea of a “snake girl” getting hate for being different (something that happens commonly in latin/central America), through social media.

MC: How was it working with Steve Andreas and Felicia for this release?

Steve is my bro. He is hilarious and we’ve worked together for a while, it was great to have our first release together thanks to Sak Noel and Barnaton. Felicia was also amazing, we recorded through zoom, she was in Colombia, I was in Miami. Her vocal power is clearly felt through the recording. It’s a very authentic guaracha vocal.

MC: How did the situation of DJing at the Panama Canal come to fruition?

During the pandemic, I saw so many videos of Djs performing on their monuments and crazy structures me and my team wanted to do this in the Panama Canal! It meant so much to me, and it was a challenge. Right when we started the project we understood the reason many artists tried and failed. From marine challenges to aeronautical legal stuff we had to work through. I’m proud to say we achieved it!

MC: What advice would you give to artists who would want to get signed to labels such as Armada, Spinnin, Revealed, and the like?

I’d say, A. Be sure that the works you’re sending really represent a professional level of producing from your end. You really want to be happy with your work before sending it. And B. A&R s are very different from label to label, so don’t ever feel discouraged or take it personal when they say no. I’ve had records one label says it won’t fit them, and another really fall in love with the record! Think as an A&R, and you’ll be able to understand them better.

MC: What is your favorite activity to do with your fans?

Definitely play video games. I stream on twitch and spending time with fans on Discord and Twitch are so so so important to me.

MC: When did you know you wanted to have a career in EDM?

At the age of 15. I performed my first big show in the Panamanian Carnivals and I fell in love with djing and the craft of a Dance Music DJ/Producer.
