Having stayed consistently active over the past months, emerging talent Gillian Heidi is back with yet another gem sharing her latest single ‘waves’. The young singer and songwriter treats her music as a conduit for truth, using the piano, guitar and her immense songwriting skills to capture her honest emotions and thoughts. A only 17 years old, she has already created a long discography of stunning singles, and is showing no signs of stopping anytime soon.
‘waves’ marks yet another single that displays Gillian Heidi’s maturity as a songwriter, filled with personal stories and captivating melodies. Driven by intimate guitar melodies and vocal lines, it slowly builds with the help of subtle percussion and stunning harmonies, while Gillian Heidi sings about realizing that she’s not a kid anymore, and that the good, carefree times are now behind her. As she explains:
“I wrote waves at the end of eighth grade, when I started to realize that everything was changing. I had recently switched schools, and I was about to start high school. I had this overwhelming feeling of realizing that I wasn’t a kid anymore. Instead, my life was now plagued with worry about tests and relationships and things that, in the long run, don’t really matter. Waves was a moment of realization for me- I was growing up. My life was no longer focused on fun and fairytales, and I was nostalgic for a simpler, easier time. Waves captures a feeling of nostalgia and pain, wishing you would’ve cherished simplistic times when they existed and wondering how you ended up where you are.”
