With the glitzy grooves and blend of disco-rock-indie-nostalgia that they possess, ‘Daylight’, before you’ve seen the song credits, is an undeniable Good Time Locomotive banger. Once again, the band is working with Adrian Bushby (Muse, Foo Fighters), and the group continues to tighten up a sound with polish, purpose and panache.
The track starts with a bass line you could almost hear in jazz fusion. Then, the screaming synthesisers begin to swirl and the riffs dive into the mix. It’s 80s, it’s 00s, it’s for the here and now, GTL are embodying dancefloor instincts with a bit of sun-drenched euphoria, all while staying true to the classic rock licks and a bit of performative theatre.
Frontman Hugo Leite sums it up, “‘Daylight’ is all about getting caught up in the moment and then waking up to reality. It’s that sudden switch from feeling everything in that moment to waking up and questioning what any of it meant.”
Since emerging post-lockdown, Good Time Locomotive are a five-piece who have been carving out a niche for guitar-led good vibes. The confident next step of ‘Daylight’ tips its hat to its influences, but feels their most radio-ready jam to date.
