Hàn Gắn is comprised of the duo J. Brian Nicewander and Matt T. Eng, with the duo formed in the summer of 2017 from a Virginia high-rise overlooking the Potomac River. Sharing memories of the punk acts that played dive bars, pop-ups, and basements in the area, they endeavoured to reignite the spark, not taking themselves too seriously but making an impact on the world around them.
Hàn Gắn’s new single is full of vibrant punk energy. Entitled ‘Pull The Pin’, it’s brimming with rebellious vocal tones and colossal guitar riffs, all coming together to crash down on the listener as an ethereal chord foundation rings out among unstoppable drums. Moving from initially rooted rhythms that embrace a chanting revolution, the track steadily moves into a swirling cry of reflective, poetic lyricism, contrasted with the aggression of the instrumentation.
The duo share, “‘Pull the Pin’ comes from a mediative and spiritual place, which transcends any religious or political doctrines; it started with a question of how to operate from a place of heart-centred love for all, but also be prepared to take the actions necessary to challenge the harms selfish leaders and exploitive economic and cultural programming impose on us all personally and on our world.”
