Igimèjí just released their first song of the year ‘Better Things’. The song has a funky, feel-good energy but it has a serious message about today’s political climate. It’s the second single from their upcoming debut album ‘It’s Not a Race’, which is scheduled for release later this summer.
With smooth guitar, catchy grooves, and a dash of saxophone throughout, the track has a laid back yet upbeat vibe. But listen close, and you’ll hear something deeper. The lyrics talk about wanting peace, truth, and freedom in a world full of chaos, lies, and division. Lyrics like “We can’t afford no houses / We dropping bombs in Gaza / The media keeps lying / Confusion and demises / Can’t take no more surprises” tell the story of the experience a lot of people have in today’s world.
Igimèjí started as a duo in Nepal, with Kayla Scales and Ladi Oyediran writing songs and playing local bars. Now based in Dallas-Fort Worth, the group has grown into a five-piece band. ‘Better Things’ was written in 2023 and recorded in 2024 by bassist Aaron Payton at PaperTone Studios.
‘Better Things’ is more than just a song—it’s a call to care about each other, to question what really matters, and to imagine something better. The band says, “We feel that it encapsulates the growing mix of emotions about American politics, the economy, and our broken system. We hope that it inspires our neighbours to ask more of our political leaders and look out for one another.
This is song for everyone!” Listen to the new single ‘Better Things’, out now.
