indyana unveils the folk cinema of ‘the moon in the morning’

Bringing a classically trained ability to a unique blend of cinematic scale, indyana combines folk, pop and orchestral influence to craft magical, celestial stories. Supporting the likes of Paige and, as a violist, playing at Sidney Myer Music Bowl and the John Cain Arena, indyana has now begun to shine as a solo artist, unveiling vast odysseys with each release.

The latest of these releases is ‘the moon in the morning’ another single released on the road to her twelve-track debut album the navy baby. As the full project nears its release, the new single serves as an exciting insight, with exquisite composition gripping the audience from the first acoustic pluck. After setting her delicate vocals at the centre, the artist slowly introduces airy synth melodies and warming string arrangements, expanding her supporting instrumentation as her melodies grow in intensity.

As the percussion reverberates out into the distance, her vocals cry out, blurring the lines between the shimmering synth pads and her spellbinding wails. The momentousness rises, crashing down on the listener as the vocals fragment into competing layers, ending with a sombre string line, the acoustic guitar re-emerges at the forefront, the ever-present rock of the track.

Diving into the release, Indyana shares her thoughts, “My cinema-folk lullaby ‘the moon in the morning’ is an ode to how a mere glimpse of the moon, especially at peculiar times of day, has humbled my human struggle more times than I could ever count. Whenever I see the moon in the morning (or in the afternoon), my inner child can do nothing but gasp at its presence, as we are taught from a young age that the moon is only a thing we see at night.

My siren-esque vocal line (see timecode 2:18), or as I like to call her ‘the moon siren’, was added quite far into the writing process, as I felt like the song needed a powerful cry out to the ether. This, in combination with my intricately composed viola lines throughout, strongly elevated what was once a soft lullaby I wrote in my bedroom to something so much more profound and emotionally gripping.

I hope my track draws others’ attention to this great power of our moon. We are all ‘navy babies’ (children of the galaxy) but it is easy for us to get caught up in our earthling activities and forget to simply… exist. Allow this song to cast you into the depths of yourself; to let your emotions run wild like the rising and falling of the tide.”
