Introducing Vangelis Polydorou With Fabulous Debut ‘Throw Me’

Here to save us from the monotony of lockdown, Vangelis Polydorou has arrived with a debut single drenched in both glamour and high drama. ‘Throw Me’ is the perfect introduction to his rich and expressive voice, and the accompanying video gives us a glimpse into his fabulous world. We see Vangelis swiping through a dating app with a difference: instead of choosing between male suitors, he browses a variety of horror characters including a mummy, a zombie, and a witch. Vangelis’s boyfriend also appears as a drag-wearing fly who gets caught – quite literally – in his web. Veronica Green, one of the contestants from the current series of Drag Race UK also appears.

Vangelis said: “Throw Me is about searching for love online, trying to find that perfect person who will sweep you off your feet. With dating apps being an intrinsic part of LGBTQ culture, we decided to set the music video in a classic cult horror universe – with a modern twist – as a way to explore the colourful and exaggerated characters you can come across online. It shows not only how disposable people are nowadays, but also how accessible; just one swipe away.”

The song was co-written by Boy George, with whom Vangelis has an ongoing creative partnership since they met when Vangelis appeared as a contestant on The Voice UK in 2016. Vangelis also regularly tours with Culture Club, and supported the band for their socially distanced show at Wembley Arena in December 2020.

Boy George said: “I met Vangelis on my first season of The Voice UK and we became great friends. I loved his voice but also his attitude and I have watched him and helped him to develop his sound. At times he reminds me of a young Marc Bolan and I encourage the glamour because pop music needs glamour and great hooks. Vangelis has both and a beautiful voice.”
