Irene Skylakaki releases beautifully ethereal track ‘Sutherland Avenue’

Folk singer-songwriter Irene Skylakaki extends her creativity with new single ‘Sutherland Avenue’, taken from her upcoming album ‘Souvenir’. The song begins with subtle, minimalist productions before evolving into a fuller sound with a dynamic beat and tender piano melodies. Throughout, the track is airy and experimental, leaving plenty of space for Irene’s haunting, silky vocals to shine. There’s a celestial quality to her harmonies, and her lyrics are deeply personal and intimate, yet invite listeners to relate themselves to the catharsis of her words.

Briefly discussing her new single, Irene says: “I would prefer it if anyone who listens to ‘Sutherland Avenue’ connects with it through their own experiences. The lyrics to the song are quite self-explanatory and raw and after various tries, I insisted on keeping them as they are unsophisticated and honest.”

Irene has worked with well-renowned producers and musicians on her previous albums, as well as performing as a support act for artists such as Macy Gray, Jessie Ware and Daughter. Having released three successful singles already this year, the tender new ‘Sutherland Avenue’ leaves you breathlessly awaiting more, fueling fans’ hunger for Irene’s new album, which is expected to be released next month.
