Jake Vera, an emerging force from Dallas, Texas, enters the alternative rock landscape with Time, a formidable new single released on 1st July 2025. Known for his multi-instrumental capabilities and emotive vocal presence, Vera explores the existential with rare intensity, confronting the fear of death, the desperation for more life, and the fragile thread of hope that ties them together.
Sonically rooted in the muscular foundations of early 2000s alt-rock, Time draws a clear lineage from acts such as Breaking Benjamin and Thirty Seconds to Mars, while embracing a sharp, modern production style. The track was produced by Reactance, with mixing and mastering led by Sefi Carmel — a seasoned engineer whose credits include David Bowie, Bruno Mars, and Phil Collins. Their collaboration results in a track that feels immersive and cinematic, balancing raw urgency with melodic clarity.
Vera’s lyricism is steeped in spiritual unrest, capturing the voice of someone standing at the brink. “Turn back time / So I can find, the essence of my life,” he pleads, offering insight into a narrative shaped by internal conflict and fleeting hope. Although the subject matter is bleak, Time never loses its sense of drive. “Time is full of life and energy,” Vera explains. “While the theme might be grim, there’s still a small glimmer of hope — something the listener can latch onto.”
This release marks the first of five upcoming singles comprising a yet-to-be-confirmed EP, informally titled A Lost Soul. The project will unfold gradually over the coming months, with physical CD editions offering early access to unreleased material. The tactile format reflects Vera’s appreciation for physical media and a more personal connection with fans.
Outside the studio, Vera leads a life defined by movement and narrative. He keeps active through MMA and long-distance running, and draws creative inspiration from story-driven video games such as Baldur’s Gate 3 and Syphon Filter. His longstanding love of cinema, nurtured by a close relationship with his grandfather, informs the visual and emotional weight of his songwriting.
Still a relative newcomer to the broader music press, Vera approaches his debut with openness and humility. “At this stage, being covered by any publication would mean the world. I just hope this track helps put me on someone’s radar.”
