Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, and producer Jason Nott has unveiled his latest single, “I Was Dating All My Friends,” marking a significant milestone in his musical journey. Known for his previous work with various bands, Jason steps into the solo spotlight with a fresh yet nostalgically infused sound that evokes the pop-rock vibes of the ’90s.
Jason Nott’s musical roots trace back to his teenage years, where he first made waves as the guitarist for the punk band Drive A. Touring extensively and sharing stages with notable acts like The Used, Third Eye Blind, and Papa Roach, Drive A enjoyed considerable success, including a spot on the Billboard charts and heavy rotation on MTV. Following the band’s disbandment, Jason continued to find success with Beachwood Coyotes, whose music resonated on major TV shows such as Shameless and Teen Mom.
With the onset of the pandemic and the subsequent halt in touring, Jason turned inward, using the time to delve deeply into songwriting. This period of introspection led to his solo project, blending elements of his past work with new, personal explorations. “I Was Dating All My Friends” emerges as the first taste of this solo endeavour, a track that perfectly balances nostalgic soundscapes with contemporary flair.
The single is a vibrant, upbeat anthem that channels the carefree joy of teenage summers. Imagine a road trip with friends, windows down, music blaring – this is the essence that Jason captures in his new track. Beneath its lively exterior, the song explores deeper themes of reclaiming self-worth and moving on from unfulfilling relationships. The collaborative efforts with Los Angeles-based producers Rich Zahniser (The Hippos) and Daniel Wonacott (Senses Fail, Finch) elevate the track, while the music video directed by Kate Alden adds a visual dimension that complements the song’s energetic and introspective qualities.
Reflecting on the creation of “I Was Dating All My Friends,” Jason shares, “I wrote the song after spending a few weeks in isolation in a cabin in the mountains of Southern California during the summer of 2020. I eventually recorded the track with the help of two producer friends: Daniel Wonacott and Rich Zahniser. I played all of the instruments on the song.”
