Originally from Turkey, but moving to London to study Contemporary Music, with a wide range of musical influences from both Western and Middle Eastern music. From this he crafts a unique blends of Middle Eastern percussion and rock-infused guitars. He’s gained a following across social media thanks to his recent Turkish cover of ‘Yalancisin’ and is now hoping to release further music that capitalises on his growth.
The latest offering from Jem, ‘Icarus’, is an angelic and idyllic composition, with thought provoking, introspective songwriting that has emotion echoing throughout the whole track. A subtle guitar line provides a counter melody, absorbed in layers of vocals and synths and rhythmic drum pattern. The main vocal line is passionate and evocative, lighting a fire beneath the listener whilst simultaneously slowing their thoughts down.
On the new release, Jem shares, “In ‘Icarus,’ I wanted to explore the human spirit’s insatiable desire to soar beyond its limits. Like the mythical figure, we are drawn to reach for the sun, even if it means facing the consequences. This song is an ode to the boundless aspirations that drive us to take flight and discover the depths of our souls.”
