Black Light White Light, the emotive indie rock band known for their captivating sound, has released their highly anticipated full-length album titled ‘The Admirer’. The album, available on digital platforms, LP, and CD through Forward Backwards Recordings, showcases the band’s unique blend of imperious shoegaze and swirling psychedelia.
Hailing from Malmo, Sweden, Black Light White Light was formed in 2009 by guitarist, singer, and songwriter Martin Ejlertsen. With a penchant for seeking inspiration and collaboration internationally, the band has crafted a sound that transcends borders. The recording of ‘The Admirer’ began in 2019 when the band retreated to Viktoria Studio in Copenhagen, Denmark, to work on demos with producer Christian Ki. However, due to the pandemic, the band was forced to complete the project at Tambourine Studio in their hometown of Malmo.
‘The Admirer’ was mixed by Grammy-winning engineer Kennie Takahashi, who has previously worked with renowned acts like The Black Keys, Gnarls Barkley, and Broken Bells. The album was also mastered by Danish engineer Casper Hesselager and Matt Colton, known for their work with Arctic Monkeys, Depeche Mode, and Thom Yorke. Adding to the album’s sonic richness are strings by Grammy-winning composer Davide Rossi, who has collaborated with artists like Coldplay, The Verve, and Goldfrapp.
‘The Admirer’ is an expansive album that delves into the complexities of the human experience. The lead single, ‘Epilepsy’ showcases bright guitar melodies reminiscent of The Beatles, infusing classic rock elements with indie sensibilities. The accompanying music video for the song is a mesmerizing visual representation of the hazy indie hues created by Black Light White Light.
Martin Ejlertsen, the creative force behind Black Light White Light, shares his thoughts on the album, stating, “I think the album presents the band’s most personal, versatile and certainly most adventurous release to date. It delivers psychedelic rock, cosmic pop, and piano-driven ballads with wandering melodies, layers of keyboards, sizzling delay guitars, and manipulated effects to an intoxicating mix that jumps and has plenty of edge in 10 songs with personal lyrics about pain, doubt, love and confusion. My most personal songs to date.”
