Norway’s pop superheroes KEiiNO are back with a massive new single. ‘Monument’ is one of 12 finalists competing to become Norway’s entry to the Eurovision Song Contest in May. KEiiNO won the selection in 2019 and their song ‘Spirit in the Sky’ became a massive hit, charting in multiple European countries.
“We can’t wait to be back! We absolutely love the MGP and Eurovision world, and it feels like home. Being in KEiiNO has really been life changing for me” says Alexandra Rotan of the band.
Monument is about the traces we leave behind, the moments you’ll always remember, the connections that make an impact, and is a monument to all everyday heroes. It’s written and produced by the band together with Alexander Olsson and Rüdiger Schramm. And to create the massive sound they wanted, they’ve combined a live band, samples and synths alongside strings from Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra.
KEiiNO are famed for bringing attention to the indigenous Sami culture during ESC 2019, and were appointed ambassadors of the UN’s year of Indigenous languages. To contribute in the preservation of ancient vocal traditions, KEiiNO have collaborated with other indigenous artists on their modern pop productions. Their debut-album OKTA includes four such collaborations, together with First Nations Australian ARIA-award nominated Electric Fields, Maori Haka-band Te Hau Tawhiti (Australia/ NZ) Native American rapper Dresuz and Inuk throat-singer Charlotte Qamainq (Canada).
“We really believe ‘Monument’ has that little something extra that will appeal to both the public and the juries. It is time to bring the Eurovision Song Contest back to beautiful Norway, and we really hope the Norwegian people will vote us through and give us that chance” says Tom Hugo.
Monument is out now.
