Khemet McConville shares the glorious soul of ‘Your Mother Said’

Khemet McConville is the California-hailing multi-instrumentalist, producer and songwriter whose projects have been defined by a uniquely compositional approach to expressive musicality. From demos to albums to single releases, Khemet constantly searches to expand his abilities, producing a cinematic string of live performances titled ‘Khemet McConville Live at EastWest Studios’. Signing with independent launchpad AWAL music, a new era for Khemet begins.

As the sleek opening descends onto your eardrums, Khemet McConville’s ‘Your Mother Said’ gets underway, revealing a warm piano accompaniment and a chorus of graceful vocals. The grooving bass tones add an array of energised fills, whilst the drums engage with an unparalleled rhythmic intent.

The luxuriant growth of soul builds around the track, introducing more elements, each one joining the song with a heartfelt passion. Saxophone melodies, organ whirls and more exuberant vocals ascend to a climax, before falling back into the beauty of the soundscape as the track finds closure.

Khemet explains, “The Track is a nursery rhyme-esque sing-along, with strong gospel overtones. Driven by a punchy yet smooth bass line, and accompanied by Motown-inspired drums, the track gradually crescendos until ultimately dropping you into the final verse where a sobering life lesson awaits you. I wanted to create a children’s song that would appeal to adults sonically and be simple enough for kids to sing along to lyrically. Keeping a simple repetitive hook, I deliver a detailed timeline of the character’s life and a number of life lessons to go along with it.”
