Dave Abbruzzese, best known for his work with Pearl Jam, has recently shared his incredibly drumming ability with folk band Kind Hearted Thieves, with his worked scattered across their debut album ‘Love & Other Curses’. After a conversation between lead singer and songwriter Jamie Ramsden and Abbruzzese the two formed a bond of both musical and friendship terms. This lead to Dave drumming on 3 tracks, mixing 4 songs and introducing guitarist Jeff Nolan to the music.
Dave shares, “This music hit me in just the right way. The honesty and the determination of the music made me pay attention, but it was my conversations with Jamie and that the depth of his passion matched his talents… …and he is the genuine article. I couldn’t silence my desire to contribute to the album. I am proud to be a part of this album.”
With Jamie adding “We set off to try and make the best album we could, and I don’t think we realised quite how lucky we had been until it was finished!”
The album is led by singles ‘Dark Petal’ and ‘Arthur’ both featuring Abbruzzese’s drumming prowess, with the whole track list telling wonderful, melancholic and optimistic stories. Jamie’s vocals convey these emotions to perfection, with his gritty sensibilities powering through the evocative lyrics.
It’s a very individual album, with an eclectic instrumental mix of fiddle, banjo, lap steel guitar and piano, alongside the standard rock make up. It is rich in soundscape, building castles of emotion in each grunge-tinged track.
