Following the release of ‘Letting Go’ earlier in the year, we were genuinely excited to see what Layyah was going to put out next, and with the release of ‘Passenger Side’ hitting the airwaves, she continues to prove her worth time and time again.
A magnetic blend of UK Rap and R&B, the single is layered with booming bass and poetic vulnerability. Featuring UK-based rapper Scorcher, the track goes deeper than the soundwaves, springing many layers of meaning and interpretation, exploring a fresh take on modern femininity. The release arrives just in time for summer, and you can almost already hear it swirling around sound systems and festival sites, adding to the saturated artistry of Layyah.
Explaining the message behind the release, she dives in, “Passenger Side is a vibe. The concept came about while I was chilling with my friends, having a girlie chat. I heard the beat and the lyrics just came to me. We were talking about how being in control doesn’t always mean being the driver. It’s about the effortless, calm confidence we women hold when deciding to be passenger princesses, not because we can’t drive, but because we want to be driven and lead from the Passenger side.”
