Italian-born, Amsterdam-based artist Leon Seti, also known as Leo Baldi, is back with a new album. With a penchant for producing and singing, Seti has been making waves in the music industry with his nostalgic yet experimental electro-pop sound.
Leon Seti’s musical journey is as intriguing as his sound. Growing up in a small town in Italy, he was deeply inspired by the artists he watched on TV as a child. His journey began as he started singing in his late teens and joined various rock bands, eventually transitioning to writing pop songs on his laptop. This transition led him to pursue a career in music, even as he completed a BA and later an MA in philosophy in the UK. Seti’s dedication to his craft was unwavering as he worked various jobs while chasing his dream.
Seti’s latest album, ‘Grimoire’, is a masterpiece that showcases his growth as an artist and his mastery of the electro-pop genre. Produced by Pancratio, the album is a kaleidoscope of Seti’s thoughts, dreams, and desires, with themes of love resonating throughout. Reminiscent of artists like BANKS, Björk, and Imogen Heap, each track on ‘Grimoire’ is deeply personal and introspective, brimming with lush vocal harmonies and layers. What’s truly remarkable is the sense of continuity that runs through the album, each song standing out in its own enchanting way while remaining connected by a common thread.
One of the standout tracks from ‘Grimoire’ is ‘And I’m Gone’. In this song, Seti’s voice takes center stage, delivering a passionate and emotionally charged performance. The lyrics tell a story of self-discovery and the desire to escape from a toxic relationship. Seti’s vocals emit a warmth and essence that are palpable, drawing the listener into a world of raw emotion.
Instrumentally, ‘And I’m Gone’ is a nostalgic journey through synthetic elements that create a rich sonic soundscape. From bubbling arpeggios to plush pads, the music complements the lyrical narrative perfectly, enhancing the overall listening experience.
When asked about ‘Grimoire’ and ‘And I’m Gone’, Leon Seti shared, “Grimoire is an album I wrote about the healing of trauma. I wanted every song to feel like a spell in a magic book, where the pain feels so old it’s almost acting like a balm. ‘And I’m Gone,’ specifically, is a song about wanting to escape from a place of dread and solitude, and even though I talk like I’ve already left, it was actually written while I was living in London and wanting to escape a toxic relationship.”
