“Lesson in Disappointment” brings Blake Rave into indie-rock territory

Blake Rave’s latest single, “Lesson in Disappointment,” explores an edgier side of the singer-songwriter. Born and raised in the heartland of the U.S., but currently based in the UK, Rave is a montage of influences and sounds. However, his songwriting prowess is truly singular.

The chorus gives way to smart lines like, “Give it a little time/it might come back around. But then again some things are better left dead,/ six feet under ground.” His vocals sound like a call back to those of a different era, infused with a timeless rock quality. The track itself is entirely personal, with Rave describing it as, “Ripped from the pages of my dating diary.”

With a theme so universal, it is sure to work its way into the ears, and playlists, of many new fans.
