Listen to Kelela’s new woozy track ‘Waitin’

Kelela has shared a new track, ‘Waitin‘, ahead of the release of her long-awaited debut album, Take Me Apart.

The singer’s latest offering is a liquid pop gem packed with producer Jam City‘s trademark woozy synth-work. Bouncy 808 bass hits and danceable percussion make ‘Waitin‘ a chart friendly track that’s also incredibly club-worthy at the same time. Listen to ‘Waitin‘ below.

Take Me Apart follows Kelela’s 2014 Hallucinogen EP and her breakthrough mixtape, Cut 4 Me, which was released back in 2013. ‘Waitin‘ joins the recently released album tracks, ‘Frontline‘ and ‘LMK‘.

Speaking about the new self-reflective record, the singer describes it as “an honest vision of how we navigate dissolving ties with each other and yet remain sanguine for the next chance at love.

Despite it being a personal record, the politics of my identity informs how it sounds and how I choose to articulate my vulnerability and strength,” she muses in a press statement. “I am a black woman, a second-generation Ethiopian-American, who grew up in the ‘burbs listening to R&B, Jazz and Björk. All of it comes out in one way or another.

Take Me Apart is set for release via Warp this Friday, 6th October and sees Kelela embarking on a European and North American tour to support the record.
