M.I.A posts politically charged new single

The singer shared her new single ‘P.O.W.A’, accompanied by an impressive video.

M.I.A is never one to shy away from controversy and this single is no different. She uses the platform to not-so-subtly reference Trump and his current administration.

Throw up my finger and I’m taking on the Tower… Super-kala-fascist-racist-espi-ala-tazors

The video shows a row of dancers in front of a wall in what appears to be a reference to Trumps infamous wall between Mexico and the US.

M.I.A also made references to fellow female posters Rihanna, Madonna, Mariah Carey, and Ariana Grande. However, the singer was quick to take to twitter to dispel rumours that she was dissing them in the track. In the now deleted tweet, M.I.A tagged all of the singers to say “This is not a dis , its just not an “alternative fact” . Difference is good”.

The single comes from her latest release AIM which she announced on BBC Radio 1 that it would be her last.

She has recently been confirmed as the curator of this year’s Meldown Festival which will take place 9th – 18th June 2017.
