The New Zealand-born, Maori, neurodivergent pop-rock riser MAREYA is throwing open the floodgates with ‘I’m So Sorry’. The track is gritty, glittery, and emotionally charged, exploring the complex interplay between mental health and heartbreak.
It follows up on the igniting breakthrough ‘ADHD & Me’, and Mareya arrives with raw confession and realism. Alongside crisp, thudding drums and energised guitar growl, there’s a powerhouse vocal performance and pulsating synth overtones. Moments of pure pop are spliced with darker, roaring assertion. Mareya brings a firework to the inferno chaos, letting out cathartic roars, apologising, admitting, but staring down the barrel of emotional reckoning.
In her own words, “I’m So Sorry” is a raw, pop-rock anthem that is a wake-up call from the depths of depression and anxiety – a confession of how mental illness can drag down not only yourself, but the people you love. It’s messy, honest, and full of emotional fire, but it also ultimately carries a spark of hope and determination to change. It’s a song about finally understanding the impact of your pain, and choosing to fight your way back before it’s too late.”
With a new EP on the horizon, Glitter Tears, MAREYA is carving out her space for queer, neurodivergent voices in alternative pop, fusing the 2000s with a set of fresh ideas.
