MARKETPLACE is made up of Evie Rhodes, Joel O’Beirne, Jack Purcell, Matthew Short and Ross Dixon, and they are a five-piece with serious backing already. They’ve supported the likes of Alfie Templeman, Swim Deep and The Lottery Winners across the country and will soon be announcing a new tour to bring their indie-pop sound to even more fans.
Their latest release, a brand new single, is the whimsical love bop ‘Ode To Monty’. Despite it’s tongue-in-cheek, satirical and playful nature, the band bring a flowery joy to every inch of the track. It’s a hazy summer dream to light up the winter with glittery indie aesthetics and a sunny finish.
Bouncy bass lines and drum rhythms, soft, smiling vocals and a combination of bright guitars and shimmering synths all come together for a danceable kaleidoscope of colour.
Evie explains some of that playful nature, “We wanted to write a real earnest love song, which is something we’ve never really tackled before due to a habit of not really taking ourselves too seriously. More often than not, that comes across in lyrics too, tackling subjects with a more tongue in cheek approach. So Ross (drummer) said, “Can you make it about celebrity gardener Monty Don from Gardeners’ World?” so he became the object of my affections for the lyrics of the song.”
‘Ode To Monty’ is out now!
