An artist whose roots span the globe, between Croatia, Venezuela and Italy, Marko Ivic is a pianist, composer, and sound designer. Honing a deep appreciation for the intricacies of sound, Marko translates everyday moments into moments of musical clarity, seeking to find the deeper meanings of spirituality and simple beauty.
Completing his education in classical piano at the University of Zagreb before earning a Master’s degree in Live Electronics from the Conservatory in Amsterdam, Marko now seeks to dive into the world of electro-acoustic music.
A compilation of musical meditations, Marko’s debut album, When I entered there was a room, pulls from vast, grandiose moments of fantastical piano exuberances, and true musicianship’s solitary, slow and reflective nature.
Transforming the atmospheres, Marko uses the music to speak to emotion, colour and thoughts with his vivid use of rhythm and rubato. It’s this expressive playing that pulls the listener in deeper, each track a capsule of life, brought forward in immense detail with subtle playing and production techniques.
Marko describes the project in his own words, “This album explores the vast potential of a concert grand piano interacting with live audio processing. The result is a collection of pieces rich in rhythm, pulse and delays, but also full of colour, lyricism, and emotionally charged landscapes.
The idea behind the album title is to portray music as a space where you can connect with yourself—your inner reflections, thoughts, emotions, and what you want to express. The ‘when’ signals a possibility: if you choose to go inward, you will find a space that has room for you.”
