Massachusetts based rapper, Guy Rawkes, reflects on societal norms in new single ‘X Stoner Life’

Hailing from Lynn, Massachusetts, Guy Rawkes first hit the rap scene in January 2024.

Despite growing up listening to a variety of genres including rock, Latin and hip hop, Guy Rawkes found it was the hip hop giants such as MF Doom, Big Pun, Gang Starr that have inspired his sound the most which he describes as conscious rap, as he explains:

Although I’m not a fan of the label, I’d probably align myself with what is considered “conscious rap”. That being hip-hop that has heavy emphasis on lyricism and originality. Some artists mentioned above might fit in the niche.”

Guy Rawkes uses his latest single X Stoner Life to describe his frustrations with the pressure people feel to conform to society’s stereotypical norms, as he expresses:

“Society pushes a lot of people to conform to what is deemed a “proper way of living”. Trying to adhere to external expectations can cause unhappiness.”
