Michael Blackwell is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whose skills have been late to household names including Louis Tomlinson, Amber Run and Lewis Capaldi. The County-Durham-hailing artist has now set his sights on a new solo journey, something that has seen him come charging into 2023.
In a major milestone for this sonic exploration, Michael has just released debut EP ‘A Trip Around The Sun’. Featuring his first five singles ‘Nothing Makes Sense’, ‘Easy’, ‘Lesson Learned’, ‘Signs of Life’ and ‘Down On Your Luck’ the project also comes with new single ‘Cold Water’.
The single opens into an ethereal soundscape of spacey electric guitar lines that float between wistful vocal lines. This emotional soundscape is let loose into a momentous drum beat, as more harmonies join the atmosphere. Michael continues to expand the track, bringing in gritty distortion to instruments that swirls around our ears. The effect builds, before a reverberant guitar lick sees us out and on into the next track.
On the new track, Michael shares, “‘Cold Water’ was written about learning how to deal with trauma. Washing away the pain and negative feelings and moving on with the next phase of your life.”
