Back with the anticipated second single, bedroom-pop dream-manufacturer MJ Fretwell has quickly positioned herself as one to watch after drawing attention on debut. A confessional style resonates with heartfelt authenticity, building into indie, alt-pop, and a touch of R&B.
The West Sussex artist now unveils ‘Still Miss It’, expertly crafting a bittersweet romantic tale, hovering between the glow of a rose-tinted fantasy and a cold sting of realism. Her aching performance draws you in, arriving at the heart of her reflection with an emotionally incisive backdrop.
This romance is co-produced with collaborator Luke Ashby, bringing continued sonic richness and vulnerability as her artistry evolves and unravels into beautiful new avenues.
MJ says, “Sonically, I wanted it to sound like being stuck in a daydream, which I think we achieved. The song is all about reminiscing on a past connection with someone, and sort of flicking between the fantasy and the reality of what could be. I wanted to mirror that feeling.
I have always found it easier to write love songs; songwriting just feels like journaling to me. It feels good to have it all down on paper and out of my head, and creating a song that reflects a difficult experience is a healthy way to express your feelings, and then let it rest.”
