Los Angeles natives Mortez have just unveiled their latest single ‘COVEN’, following February’s ‘Down With The Devil’ and matching its position of a bewitching experience. Brett and Rachele have received a range of praise for their creations and are continuing to rise in tastemaker rankings.
‘COVEN’ begins with a delivery of choir-like vocals, framing the track with a historic nature and chanting atmosphere. From there, huge, cinematic gut-punches, twinkling piano tones, and string plucks take hold of the sound.
On the upward trajectory, roaring lead guitars and an intensifying, stadium-filling atmosphere grab the listener. The track ends with an eerie, glassy melody, echoing the riotous sounds that have preceded it with a spine-tingling quietness.
The pair adds, “We wrote this song as another step into our gothic and witchy sensibilities. Showcasing our skills and flair when it comes to drama. Coven illustrates the combative and tumultuous relationship we have with our inner demons. Verse one opens with a demand of our ego, inviting the monsters we fear to a fight. Knowing our internal light is inevitable, we are prepared to win. The chorus calls in the coven to chant in unison. The song suggests we are stronger together and we are not alone.”
