Normal Average People, composed of Sam Gillbanks and Emil Lloyd, return with their latest single, “Refund Taxi”, a brooding indie anthem steeped in grunge and introspection. Out on August 29th via Seb Wildblood’s label, All My Thoughts, the track channels the frustration of a stranded six-hour ordeal in Teckomatorp, Sweden, with its moody bass lines and raw lyrics.
Known for their fusion of 90s shoegaze and modern electronic influences, Normal Average People began as a creative partnership in South East London, where Sam and Emil shared a flat. Their early work, recorded live with a full band, evolved into the release of their debut EP The Moon Saloon. Now split between London and Stockholm, their new single, “Refund Taxi”, reflects their evolving sound, blending grunge with electronic textures.
The track draws inspiration from Sam’s real-life experience of waiting for a coach who never arrived, resulting in an expensive taxi ride. This shared frustration is captured in the song’s brooding atmosphere, making it a must-listen for fans of Cigarettes After Sex and Slowdive. “Refund Taxi” is out now and available on all streaming platforms.
