Multi-faceted creative Oriel has made her directorial debut with the music video for her new single ‘Home’. Animated by Aldous Massie, the video depicts a characterised version of Oriel on a sublime journey, mirroring the transfixing energy of the song itself. The visual is in perfect harmony with the track, both carrying Oriel’s otherworldly message.
Speaking about her new single, Oriel explains: “This song is a symbol of the transformation between “life” and “death”, metaphorically speaking. We are standing between two worlds, in the cocoon phase, the chrysalis, the period in which the caterpillar transforms into the butterfly. As we respond to the world, we are asked to face more of ourselves, which can ignite many feelings. Transformation may not always be pretty, but we know something greater awaits beyond the barrier of our cocoon. And when we lean into the heart, into the frequency of love, we shift life as we know it.”
British-born and LA-based Oriel creates mesmerising electro-soul and boasts a distinctive vocal texture, which has led her sound to be compared to the likes of Erykah Badu and Lana Del Ray. Since releasing her debut EP ‘Sunday’ in 2017, Oriel has followed with a string of successful singles, including ‘Anti-Gravity’ which was created alongside Lotus, and has accumulated over 1.7 million streams to date.
