Otis Mensah drops glowing EP ‘things I should have said a year ago’

Hailing from the North Of England, Otis Mensah returns with his 7-song EP ‘things I should have said a year ago’, which is a jazz-inspired soundscape discussing racial identity and masculinity via Otis’ truth. Having opened for the likes of Killah Priest, Lowkey, and The Sugarhill Gang, Otis’ has continued to draw plaudits and is sure to do so with his latest body of work.

Discussing the new EP, Otis shares:

“’things I should have said a year ago’ is a 7-song minimalist jazz-inspired exploration of grief and loss drenched in sonic and conceptual juxtaposition with bubble-gum melodies, dreamlike depictions of melancholy and surrealist imagery. As a musician and artist from the North of England outside the London echo chamber, I hope that this EP presents as an important outlier amidst the landscape of experimental rap from British voices.”

Poetic, somber, and joyous, the EP cycles through a mixed bag of emotions and is clearly Otis’ best work yet. We can’t wait to see what the rest of 2022 holds for Otis Mensah.
