Parallama is the moniker worn by southern US-based multi-instrumentalist Mike Strickland. Starting out on the violin, Mike would go on to expand his musicianship and go on to write and record tracks in his home studio. This led to a debut album in 2024.
His latest release is the fresh single ‘Castor’, teeing up a follow*-*up to Resolution at some point this year. There are bits of dark rock, alt-pop and indie flair amongst funky guitar performances and swirling synthesisers.
Parallama chooses his harmony wisely, crafting little bits of sonic interest within the broader tapestry. Brass chops, dynamic bass and fill-brimming drums all feed into the funk-driven undertones, making this an experimental blend of unexpected genres, but it works wonderfully.
He explains, “Castor is a bit of psychedelic funk that came to me one morning. When the first sketch was done, I knew I was onto something good. I shared it with my musician friends, who helped refine the song by adding guitar textures and a super-funky bass line. In the end, we crafted something that could have appeared on the soundtrack of an early Tarantino movie.”
